Mark Lippett, artist-in-residence at Spode Works Studios

Mark Lippett, one of three winners of last year’s ACAVA Studios Artist Development Prize, is the current artist-in-residence at Spode Works Studios.

Over the period of the residency, Mark will present a new exhibition and bespoke workshop for the local community, both inspired by the abandoned urban landscape in the West Midlands and the rest of the UK.

Mark Lippett is an award-winning visual artist based in Staffordshire. He was born in Wolverhampton and graduated from Cumbria College of Art and Design with a BA (Hons) in Fine Art, and an MA in painting from Wolverhampton University. Mark specialises in drawing and painting and is known for his atmospheric landscapes featuring abandoned buildings, many of which have been taken over by nature. He is a member of the Birmingham Art Circle and an associate member of the SGFA, regularly exhibiting his work across the UK. Mark has also built up a reputation as an art tutor and runs classes and workshops for people of all abilities and backgrounds. Visit his website here.

In partnership with Keele University and last year’s Three Counties Open Art Exhibition, the three winning artists will have each benefited from one-month-long residences at our studios in Stoke-on-Trent by spring 2023.

The ACAVA Studios Artist Development Prize is a career development opportunity that supports artists with the use of a studio for four weeks each to explore, expand, and develop their practice within a thriving community of established artists and creatives at ACAVA Spode Works Studios.

The residencies offer professional development opportunities in the form of public engagement, and co-creation of public-facing outcomes such as artist talks, exhibitions, group crits and artist workshops.

The three winning artists were selected from a pool of 43 entries for the prize, among 120 successful entries to the Three Counties Open Art Exhibition at Keele University.

Mark won the KEELE University & ACAVA Staff Choice with the piece ‘GEC’. Learn more about the other prize-winners here.
